Pro- and anti-Erdogan demonstrations drew hundreds of people in Hamburg on Tuesday during Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu’s visit to the city. The minister addressed a crowd of Turkish expatriates at the Turkish Consulate in Hamburg, calling on them to vote “Yes” in the upcoming Turkish referendum, which would could bolster President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's executive powers. On the same day, Hamburg saw rallies against Erdogan and against Cavusoglu’s visit to the city. While Erdogan’s supporters waved Turkish flags, opponents banged cooking pots and chanted slogans calling the Turkish president a “fascist,” and held banners with messages reading “Erdogan, dictator” and “Cavusoglu, go home.”
