Anti-free trade activists rallied outside the European Parliament (EP) offices in Strasbourg, Wednesday, as the body approved the vast majority of the Comprehensive economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the EU and Canada. Opponents of the deal fear that CETA will result in the loss of jobs, lower safety standards, and grant more power to corporations. The deal, which has been five years in the making, was approved with 408 MEPs voting in favour, and 254 against. Some 33 MEPs abstained from voting.
