Russian naval battle group returns from Syria mission in the Mediterranean

The Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and battlecruiser Pyotr Velikiy returned to its home base in Severomorsk, Wednesday after it has been deployed in Syria since October 2016.

The Kuznetsov and Pyotr Velikiy were the first vessels to leave Syria after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the partial withdrawal of Russia's military presence from the Middle Eastern country. Hundreds of people came to the port of Severomorsk to greet the crew after the long absence.
