Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of central Los Angeles on Sunday to protest the resumption of the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). The crowd marched from Pershing square to the Edward Roybal Federal Building, carrying banners and chanting slogans against the project. The controversial pipeline, which is to carry crude oil from a region in North Dakota north of the tribe’s lands to southern Illinois, was halted at the 93-percent completion stage at the end of last year following numerous protests. In January, newly-inaugurated President Donald Trump ordered that the December decision be overturned, sparking another wave of rallies.
