Greenpeace activists dressed Berlin's golden Statue of Victoria in a gas mask, to raise awareness over air pollution. Data published by the Umweltbundesamt (UBA) showed that many German cities exceeded the EU limit for nitrogen oxide levels in 2016. Nitric oxide is a pollutant which comes from diesel engines. High levels of the toxic pollutant lead to increased likelihood of asthma cases and cardiovascular diseases.
