Thousands of people laid Abu Al-Qia’an to rest in the Bedouin village of Hura near Beersheba city on Tuesday. Al-Qia’an was shot dead by police when his car accelerated into the officers during a protest against the demolition of the Bedouin village of Umm al-Hiran last week. The car struck at least one officer, who later died of his injuries.
Israeli officials called the incident a terrorist attack, pointing to evidence indicating that Abu al-Qia’an had Islamist ties. However, those opposing the demolitions insist that Abu Al-Qia’an was shot by police before the ramming, and was not in control of the vehicle when it hit the officers.
