Clashes erupted between riot police and members of the Mapuche indigenous group in Santiago, Chile, on Tuesday as protesters took to the streets demanding the release of political prisoners and a stop to the repression of the national minority. The protesters also called for the release of their spiritual leader, Francisca Linconao, who is accused of arson which led to the death of two wealthy landowners in 2013. Police deployed water cannon and used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
