Thousands of demonstrators marched in the streets of Lima on Monday to support educational reform and Peru’s Education Minister Jaime Saavedra, who is considered the reform leader. The placards carrying and chanting crowds were accompanied by militarised police and military vehicles, as they marched from San Martin Square through the city. The minister may face no-confidence vote, recently proposed by the Congress for alleged corruption cases. Saavedra called for university reforms to raise educational standards as well as regulation of funds in state and private universities.
