Hundreds took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro on Friday to protest against austerity measures and decry a new corruption scandal. President Michel Temer allegedly pressured a former minister of culture, Marcelo Calero, to approve a construction project in a preservation zone, owned by a former cabinet minister, Geddel Vieira Lima. The latter also resigned on Friday over the allegations, becoming the sixth official to do so since Temer took office in May.
