Around 2,000 marched in the center of Moscow on Monday to mark the 99th anniversary of the October Revolution. Activists carried symbolic red flags and portraits of Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin, accompanied by a marching orchestra. Members of the Russian Communist Party also participated in the march with its leader Gennady Zuganov leading the procession. The October uprising broke out in the city of Petrograd (now St. Petersburg) on November 7, 1917, which corresponds with October 24 in the Julian calendar, which was used in Russia until the beginning of the 20th century.
