Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe honored the victims of war during a ceremony marking the 71st anniversary of end of World War II at the Nippon Budokan arena in Tokyo, Monday. Abe, together with Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, paid their respects at the memorial and led a moment of silence to honor those who had died. In the lead-up to the Japanese surrender in 1945, the US dropped two atomic bombs, the first and last uses of nuclear weapons during active warfare, on two Japanese cities: Hiroshima on August 6 and Nagasaki on August 9. Around 150,000 people died in Hiroshima and 70,000 in Nagasaki.
