Military sappers awarded for demining Palmyra

More than 30 Russian mine disposal experts were given awards in Nakhabino, near Moscow, for demining the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra. Shortly after Palmyra was liberated from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISISL/ISIS), Russian sappers detected and defused explosive devices that had been planted inside vital infrastructure in Palmyra, such as power stations and hospitals, as well as historic sites.
