Heavy clashes broke out between police and left-wing activists as police tried to disrupt a demonstration protesting against the visit of leader of the far-right Northern League party leader, Matteo Salvini, to Bologna, Thursday. Activists carried inflatable boats as shields in an attempt to protect themselves from riot police batons, but the officers managed to break through and disperse the crowds. Several arrests were made during the event.
