Thousands of protesters marched through the Spanish capital Madrid on Saturday to demand that charges against two puppeteers accused of glorifying terrorism be dropped.
The puppeteers were arrested after a performance in Madrid on February 6 to an audience of mainly children that included a satirical plot involving a character that praised the Basque armed group ETA and Al-Qaeda.
The puppet show, funded by the city of Madrid, also portrayed the hanging of a judge and police beatings. Madrid Mayor Manuela Carmena has apologized to people at the show but criticized the puppeteers' jailing as disproportionate.
