A traditional Rose Monday parade drew large crowds in the German city of Cologne. Accompanied by music and dancing, the figures of Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Syrian President Bashar Assad and former FIFA president Sepp Blatter floated through the city. Rose Monday marks the peak of the carnival, before Ash Wednesday – the beginning of Lent.
