Fire breaks out at refugee center in Turkish capital

A migrants' center sheltering asylum seekers awaiting deportation flared up in Istanbul on Saturday. Migrants reportedly torched mattresses on the second floor of the building in revolt at their predicament. Riot police and firefighters were deployed to contain the crowd and extinguish the blaze.
Turkey is one of the key routes refugees take on their way to Western Europe, many of whom end up staying in the country. Since the Syrian crisis began in 2011, Turkey has an estimated 1 million Syrian refugees and has also witnessed an unprecedented increase in asylum applications from Afghans, Iraqis and Iranians
