Anti-fascist protesters clashed with police during a counter-rally to the HoGeSa (Hooligans Against Salafists) demonstration in Cologne on Sunday. Police used water cannon in an effort to disperse the protest by force. The demonstrators responded by throwing bottles and other objects at police. The HoGeSa rally, which reportedly drew 1,000 activists, was organised to oppose the alleged rise of Salafism in Germany. The event also commemorated the one-year anniversary of the HoGeSa demonstration that took place in October 2014, when a 4,000-strong rally ended with numerous clashes.
