Anti-gentrification activists attacked a cereal cafe in east London and set an effigy of a police officer on fire on Saturday night. The activists view the Cereal Killer Cafe in Shoreditch as symbol of inequality in the area.

The cafe attracted widespread media attention last year when a Channel 4 journalist grilled the owners for selling breakfast cereal at £3.20 ($4.55) in Tower Hamlets, one of London’s most deprived areas. The average wage of a person living in the area is just £11,400 ($17,300), the Office for National Statistics indicates, while 40 percent of the area’s children live in poverty.
