Kumbh Mela festival: Thousands of Hindu pilgrims take holy dip at Godavari River

Thousands of Hindu pilgrims taking part in the Kumbh Mela festival arrived at the Godavari river in the Indian city of Nasik to immerse themselves in the water Saturday.

In a tradition that dates back to antiquity, it's a way to cleanse pilgrims of sin. They have come to this city from across India and around the world.

Many rivers across India have been befouled by exploitative development, with city sewage, farming pesticides and industrial effluents freely flowing into waterways despite laws against polluting.
