Clashes broke out between pro-Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) supporters and police in the Gazi district of Istanbul on Sunday. PKK members reportedly blocked roads by setting fires, and threw fireworks and Molotov cocktails at police vehicles. Police deployed tear gas and water cannon in an attempt to disperse the crowd. The events follow a series of operations and arrests by the Turkish authorities in the wake of the July 20 Suruc bombing that claimed lives of at least 31 people and injured over 100.
