A Ruptly drone captured the sheer scale of the Soviet Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center (VIRAC) around 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Ventspils on Friday. The 32 meter (105 foot) diameter dish was part of one of two former Soviet radio telescopes used to decode signals from the United States and its allies during the Cold War. The dish is currently the eighth largest in the world and will now be used to explore space.
