Police deployed water cannon and tear gas against a group of 1,000 pro-abortion protesters in Lima, the capital of Peru, on Wednesday. Led by the ‘Let Her Decide’ movement, the demonstrators want abortion legalized. The procedure is illegal in Peru, even in cases of rape, with the only exception being danger to a mother’s life. The unrest began when the protest strayed from the agreed route, leaving University Park and entering Abancay Avenue to march to the congress building and block busy roads.
