Airlines resumed their services after all flights were suspended due to a forest fire near Rome’s Fiumicino airport on Wednesday. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours, as the fire broke out in three different places and winds made it difficult to contain the flames. Italy’s busiest airport was forced to suspend all takeoffs and restrict landings as the fire was in close proximity and spanned an area 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) across. Alongside firefighters, two helicopters and two firefighting planes tackled the blaze in the nature reserve near the airport. In May, Fuimicino had to close a terminal for two months after a fire broke out inside the airport.
