Thousands of Italian teachers and students took to the streets of Rome on Tuesday to protest the 'Good Schools' education reform planned by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's government. The reforms are part of the prime minister's program to reshuffle the country's economy. Renzi promised to offer 100,000 teachers permanent contracts, decrease the number of part-time workers, and award raises based on merit rather than age. According to teachers and students, the changes mostly benefit private schools, while state schools face remain underfunded.
