Crowds of miners gathered outside the Ministry of Energy and Coal Mining and the Ukrainian Parliament building (Verkhovna Rada) in Kiev on Friday, demanding outstanding salary payments as the protests entered their third day. They also demonstrated against job losses and the closure of mines. The miners took off their helmets and banged them on the ground, marching through the streets of the Ukrainian capital to show their dissatisfaction with the government's policy. After the war started in eastern Ukraine, Kiev lost many of its mines and is also planning some more closures. In response, the miners have promised to organize a series of nationwide strikes if their demands continue to be ignored.
