Thousands of fast-food workers alongside other low-wage workers from different spheres took to the streets of US cities in a series of simultaneous protests for higher wages on Wednesday. Crowds marched through central Los Angeles, shutting down traffic on Figueroa Street. Participants carried banners and balloons with the message 'Fight for 15' in reference to the $15 minimum wage they want. In New York, demonstrators marched carrying effigies of Ronald McDonald, played drums and sang songs outside a local McDonald’s restaurant near Times Square. The demonstrations on Wednesday were the largest protests by low-wage workers in US history, and affected 230 cities.
