Hundreds flooded Madrid's streets on Tuesday on the 84th anniversary of the proclamation of Spain's Second Republic. Various groups, including supporters of the anti-austerity Podemos party waved Soviet and Spanish Republic flags as they marched through the city center. The Second Republic was proclaimed on April 14, 1931, and lasted until 1939 when General Francisco Franco defeated the Republican forces in the bloody Spanish Civil War that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
