Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia inaugurated the Holy Fire from Jerusalem during the Orthodox Easter service in Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on Saturday. The fire's presence in Moscow is part of the international "Peace for Jerusalem" project. The Holy Fire has been brought to Moscow and dozens of other Russian cities with the help of a delegation of Russia's St. Andrew The First-Called Foundation, headed by the president of Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin. The fire arrived at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport from Jerusalem earlier Saturday after being transported in a special box, similar to the one used to transport the Olympic torch.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his wife Svetlana Medvedeva, and the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin attended the traditional overnight Easter Mass.
