Some 500 people took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro on Thursday to rally against police brutality in Brazil after the recent fatal shooting of a 10-year-old boy in Complexo do Alemao, one of the poorest suburbs in Rio de Janeiro. The protesters marched through Largo do Machado to Guanabara Palace holding banners and chanted against the police and politicians. Eduardo de Jesus Ferreira was shot in the head by a rifle on April 2, when police were fighting drug dealers in Complexo do Alemao.

According to the authorities, the police who fired shots during the incident were taken off street duty and an investigation has been opened. Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff demanded that the circumstances of the death be clarified and those responsible tried and punished.
