Protesters set fire to plastic containers doused in petrol in well-to-do Saar on Friday, sending huge plumes of thick smoke into the sky. They were protesting the country’s involvement in the current Saudi-led airstrikes in Yemen. The protest was organized in the small town near the Bahraini capital of Manama, known for being home to ambassadors, expatriates and wealthy Bahrainis. The Saudi Arabian government says the airstrikes are aimed at subduing Houthi militias and reinstating the government of President Hadi, who fled to Saudi Arabia last week. Some 519 people have been killed in the conflict in Yemen so far, and another 1,700 people have been wounded.
