Police fire tear gas at protesting favela dwellers in Rio

About 300 residents of Rio de Janeiro's biggest complex of slums, Complexo do Alemao, clashed with police as they protested the deadly shooting of a 10-year-old. Demonstrators hurled rocks and bottles, while police officers used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the crowds. One police officer is reported to have been injured during the clashes.

Ten-year-old Eduardo de Jesus Ferreira was shot dead on Thursday at the Complexo Alemao during a police operation against suspected drug traffickers.
