Around 100 local fishermen clashed with police in the city of Coronel, Chile, on Tuesday, in a protest against the government's Fisheries Act. Protesters trashed the offices of the Camanchaca fishing company and blocked traffic to and from the city. The riot police fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. The Fisheries Act, introduced in 2013, granted large companies 25-year concessions around fishing farms and resulted in the privatization of marine resources throughout the coastal country.
