Clashes between police and ‘Blockupy’ protesters broke out in Frankfurt on Wednesday, as the ECB (European Central Bank) opened its €1.3 billion ($1.4 billion) headquarters in the city. Police fired teargas and deployed water cannons to disperse demonstrators, who set a police car on fire. Demonstrations against the ECB, the EU (European Union) and the IMF (International Monetary Fund) are expected to continue throughout the day. The protesters accuse the institutions of favoring the rich over the poor, as well as maintaining and increasing income inequality.
