Ten days of military exercises began in Caracas on Saturday amid rising tensions with the United States over sanctions imposed on officials accused of alleged human rights abuses and corruption. Around 80,000 troops took part in the massive display of weaponry. Thousands of active officials and military reserves conducted a tactical military walk from the most important fort in Caracas to an arena that serves as an emergency shelter. The exercises will last 10 days and will enlist the participation of 20,000 civilians, in addition to the troops.
