United Launch Alliance's Atlas V rocket successfully launched NASA's Magnetic Multiscale (MMS) mission from Cape Canaveral Air Force Space Station, Florida on Thursday at 22:44 local time (02:44 GMT). The rocket will begin a two year Magnetic Multiscale (MMS) mission intended to help scientists better understand a phenomenon called magnetic reconnection. Thus four identical satellites in a pyramid formation will conduct plasma physics research in the environment of the earth's magnetosphere and will help to find out how the Sun's magnetic field merges with the Earth's converting magnetic energy into heat and kinetic energy.
