Police fired tear gas at protesters who gathered in the Bahraini capital, Manama, on Friday. Rallies are reportedly staged as part of a three-day public strike called for by Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society opposition party. Protesters demand the release of an opposition leader, Sheikh Ali Salman, who was arrested and charged with "seeking to incite a change of government by force" and "inciting hatred" of a segment of society on December 28, 2014.

Friday is the eve of the fourth anniversary of the "Bahraini revolution" that started on February 14, 2011.
