Protest movement anniversary turns violent in Venezuela

Anti-government protesters clashed with police in Caracas on Thursday during a march on the anniversary of last year's protests. Some people threw Molotov cocktails at police who responded with tear gas and rubber bullets. The protesters also set bags of rubbish ablaze and used a truck to unload broken bricks on to the street to block traffic.

Earlier in the day, both supporters and opponents of Venezuela's socialist government took to the streets to stage competing marches.
