Teachers rally over education reform in Mexico
Hundreds of riot police cleared a demonstration by teachers protesting against education reform in Mexico City on Wednesday, after they blocked one of the capital's main avenues. The demonstrators pushed back against the officers' shields and linked arms in an attempt to halt the advance of riot police. The teachers are protesting against an education reform approved in late 2013, by which the federal government assumed the power to pay teachers, and made it so that their wages were linked to their performance and attendance. The teachers had been camping out at the city's Revolution Monument since Monday.
