Prototype firefighting robot unveiled in US
US Navy scientists unveiled a prototype firefighting robot on Wednesday. SAFFiR, the Shipboard Autonomous Firefighting Robot, is able to walk, albeit slowly, towards a fire in a room and put out the flames. With two legs, and measuring over five feet tall, SAFFiR can maneuver in complex spaces intended for humans. The robot was developed by robotics experts from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, who said one day the robot would be able to help diagnose and prevent safety hazards at sea.
