Protesters again took to the streets of Manama on Thursday, demanding that the ruling House of Khalifa release Sheikh Ali Salman, Secretary-General of the Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society. Demonstrators waved Bahraini flags and threw firecrackers toward military vehicles, prompting police to response with firing smoke grenades. Previously, hundreds of protesters already took to the streets in and around Manama, demanding Salman’s release.
Salman's lawyers report that Bahraini prosecutors have charged him with inciting a change of government by force, hatred of a segment of society, as well as provoking others to break the law, and insulting the Interior Ministry. The Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society has rejected the allegations.
