At least five protesters were seriously injured after Egyptian police opened fire during a pro-Muslim Brotherhood demonstration in Cairo on Friday. Muslim Brotherhood loyalists took to the streets in the run-up to the anniversary of the January 25, 2011, “Arab Spring” revolution. Police fired teargas as protesters let off fireworks. Demonstrations and clashes between protesters and security forces have become a tradition around the January 25 anniversary in previous years.
