Dairy protest: Farmers pour milk over images of EU leaders
Delegations of farmers from European countries including Poland, France, Belgium and Germany poured milk over images of European Union leaders in Brussels on Thursday in protest against low prices. The protesters then let the images of EU leaders "drown" in a pool of milk.
Oversupply of milk on the market leads to rapid price-cutting, causing dairy farmers to suffer considerable losses.
In France, Belgium and the Netherlands, the price of 1 liter of milk is less than 30 cents, and the Baltic countries have been particularly hit, with prices between 18 and 24 cents per liter.
