With the US on the edge of war in the Middle East, according to Pentagon Papers leaker Daniel Ellsberg, the country needs the type of whistleblowers that didn’t exist during the Vietnam and Iraq wars. Speaking to RT’s Ameera David at the National Press Club, the famed activist warned about the increasing crackdown on whistleblowers, while calling for more Edward Snowdens and Chelsea Mannings to come forward.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko visited Washington on Thursday to address Congress and request lethal and non-lethal aid for his military. Repeatedly casting Russia as an expansionist power while using terms such as “democracy” and “freedom” to appeal to the assembled congresspeople, the leader called on the US to protect his fractious country. He will be headed back to Ukraine mostly empty-handed, however, as President Barack Obama has already denied his request for arms. RT’s Alexey Yaroshevsky breaks down the speech.
