One day after the Islamic State released a gruesome video showing the beheading of captive American journalist Steven Sotloff, US leaders responded with pledges to bring justice to the radical jihadists. President Barack Obama condemned the beheadings of Sotloff and James Foley, saying the US will work to degrade the threat the Islamist groups poses to the world, while Vice President Joe Biden vowed to follow IS to the “gates of hell” to bring them to justice. RT’s Ameera David takes a look at the West’s reaction to the latest tragedy at the hands of IS.

The executions of American journalists Steven Sotloff and James Foley are bringing to attention the dangers that freelance journalists face abroad. Although all journalists face many dangers reporting from hot spots across the world, those working without the protection of corporate or government employers are particularly at danger, warns Professor Christopher Chambers of Georgetown University.
