The Obama administration is deepening the US’ involvement in the crisis in Iraq, supplying weapons to Kurdish Peshmerga military forces. Senior government officials anonymously informed members of the press of the operation, but did not give details on the types or amount of weapons being sent to the war-torn region. Islamic State militants have made dramatic gains in the country, threatening ethnic and religious minorities that the US has protected with airstrikes in recent days. Protests turned into riots Sunday night as residents of Ferguson, MO expressed their outrage over the police killing of unarmed teen Michael Brown. The 18-year-old was reportedly jaywalking when stopped by police, who claim he then attempted to grab an officer’s firearm. Mary Ratliff, president of Missouri’s chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, speaks with RT’s Manila Chan on what this latest incident means for race relations in the US.
