RT SPANISH TO JOIN ARGENTINA’S NATIONAL TV GRID

MOSCOW, JULY 14, 2014 – RT Spanish is set to become the first foreign channel to start broadcast in Argentina around the clock, alongside Argentine state channels, within the framework of Television Digital Abierta (TDA), a government initiative aimed at developing digital television in the country.

The broadcasting deal became possible thanks to an agreement on mass communications cooperation, which was signed at the end of recent Russian-Argentine talks. RT Spanish will be available 24/7 to more than 80% of the country’s population.

"We are grateful to the Argentinian side for the opportunity to broadcast RT,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin. “For the first time ever the audience of this Latin American country will be able to access the Spanish-language version of the channel around the clock, via a separate “button,” alongside state channels,” he added.

“RT Spanish became the first foreign channel to receive the honor of being included in the national television network of Argentina,” noted Victoria Vorontsova, director of RT Spanish. “We are grateful for such a high assessment of the channel in Latin America. We hope to continue to engage our viewers, and to grow our audience in the region."

RT is a global international news network that broadcasts 24/7 in English, Arabic and Spanish from its studios in Moscow and Washington, DC, and is available to 644 million viewers worldwide. RT is the first TV news channel in history to cross the billion views mark on YouTube. RT is the winner of the Monte Carlo TV Festival Awards for best 24-hr broadcast, and the only Russian TV channel to garner two nominations for the prestigious International Emmy Award in the News category.
