RT NAMED FOUR-TIME FINALIST AT SHORTY AWARDS
MOSCOW, MARCH 20, 2017 – RT has been short-listed for four Shorty Awards, one of the world’s leading awards competitions recognizing excellence in social media.
RT International was named a finalist for Best Overall YouTube Presence, where it will be up against such famed networks as HBO TV Channel and the pan-Arabic news outlet Al Jazeera.
The RT360 mobile app for panoramic videos (available on Google Play, App Store, and Oculus Store) is a finalist in the Best in Photo & Video Apps category, while RT’s Space360 project, co-produced with state-owned Roscosmos and Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, is one of the finalists for Best Use of Virtual Reality. In November 2016, Space360 presented viewers with the first-ever panoramic video footage of planet Earth as seen from space. Since 2015, RT has been at the forefront of adapting 360 video content for news.
Included in the Best Live News Coverage category is RT’s multi-platform live coverage of Moscow’s 71st Victory Day parade honoring Russia’s triumph in WWII. RT’s distinctive footage featured a series of panoramic videos shot from the cockpits of a Mil Mi-8 helicopter and a Sukhoi Su-27 fighter fighter performing as part of the Russian Knights aerobatic demonstration team, as well as from inside a Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled gun and a Msta-S self-propelled howitzer.
In April 2016, RT beat out BBC News, ABC News, NBC Nightly News, and the New York Times for the People’s Voice Award for Social Media in News at the prestigious Webby Awards – the leading international awards competition honoring online excellence. At the September 2016 Lovies, RT received seven trophies for its achievements in digital media.
The Shorty Awards is a prestigious annual awards competition that honors the best of social media. Its jury includes representatives of media outlets such as CNN, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, as well as social networks like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This year’s Shorty winners will be announced at the April 23rd ceremony in New York City.
