There will be a delayed final at the US Open after heavy rain washed out Friday's action.

The downpour put off the women's semi-finals, in which Caroline Wozniacki faces Yanina Wickmayer, and home favorite Serena Williams takes on Kim Clijsters. These matches are now due to be played on Saturday.

Also to be completed is the men's quarter-final between Rafael Nadal and Fernando Gonzalez.

The pair took to the court on Thursday night, but had to halt their match, with Nadal a set up and midway through a tie-break for the second.

The delay means the men's final won't take place before Monday.

A roof is past due. But maybe they also should consider wrapping the schedule around 9-11 so New Yorkers can participate in the yearly observences.

Are they going to consider putting a retractable roof on Arther Ashe Statium? Wimbledon finally put one on their center court - the rain delays are hard on spectators and players. I would be very upset if I had bought tickets for this second week of the Open.
