Tennis star Maria Sharapova has netted the biggest advertising deal ever for a sportswoman, signing a $70 million contract with Nike.

The eight-year agreement will score the former World No. 1 almost $9 million dollars a year, Bloomberg reported, citing an unnamed source within Nike.

The deal is to take effect this month. It includes a line of dresses designed by the 22-year-old, who will also get a percentage of sales profits.

Nike spokesman Derek Kent refused to comment on the information.

Even before signing the contract, Sharapova was already the world’s best-paid sportswoman and best-paid Russian athlete.

Her new deal may look good, but the tennis queen still has some way to go to catch the biggest earner, Tiger Woods. Nike pays the golfer $30 million dollars a year.

When Maria's tennis career will be over, she should reconvert as a minister of economy. She seems to manage her money quiet well. What else can be expected from a decisions' maker (man or woman) ! Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin
