Andy Murray has become the first man in four years to separate Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the top of the men's ranking.
The on-song Scotsman won the Montreal Masters to rise to a career-high World No.2.
Murray had to come from behind, though, as he beat Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro 6-7, 7-6, 6-1.
The British player sealed his 14th career title with his 16th ace of the match.
"I went away and worked hard after Wimbledon which was tough for me but it's the perfect way to come back and set me up well for the rest of the US stretch. I'm looking forward to Cincinnati next week and then I'll work hard to get ready for the US Open," Andy Murray said.
Federer and Nadal took part in the Montreal tournament, but both crashed out in the quarter-finals.
Despite failing to reach the finals in Canada Roger Federer has managed to secure the first spot in the ATP Rankings, followed by Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal.
Nikolay Davydenko remains the only Russian in the Top 10, ranked 8th.
